Decided to buy a laptop at Best Buy. The salesman appeared to be smart and useful. Mostly, I think he was just happy that I bought a powerful machine and all of the warranties. Then he asked if I'd like Geek Squad to optimize my computer for me as well as load on all of the security software. I said throw Microsoft Office Home on there and you've got a deal. He made me pay an extra $29. I also signed up to have them come to my home to create wireless network between my two computers as well as encrypt them.
I come back an hour later to find that they have given me a different machine. Apparently, the one I had selected had a broken CD-Rom. Then the manager asks me why I hadn't been signed up for the Rewards Zone program (I would have gotten $40 back). I told him to sign me up. He said I had to call customer service to get the money (I did so, that's 15 minutes of my life that I will never get back). Then I get home and attempt to access the Cingular Wireless WAN trial. It appears the Geek Squad deleted the drivers. So I spend an hour on the phone with the computer manufacturer trying to reinstall it. No luck.
So the day comes for the Geek Squad to arrive at my house on Monday morning. Mind you I pre-paid $100. I call the store. They say call Geek Squad. I call Geek Squad, they say that their systems are down, call back 30 minutes. I do. They say that their systems are still down and to call the store. He assured me that they have the same information. Well they don't. I mentioned the missing drivers, which the store volunteered to replace . Which was pretty much the first thing they did right, too bad their store is 30 minutes from my home and it's a huge inconvenience to have to drop it off.
So here I sit wondering if the Geek Squad will ever show up and when they do, if they'll mess anything else up.
